The First Epistle of St. Paul to the Thessalonians
The First Epistle of St. Paul to the Thessalonians was likely the first of Paul’s letters, probably written somewhere around the end of AD 52. This letter was likely written to the Thessalonians from Corinth. Some believe it was written in Athens after Timothy had returned from Macedonia.
As with all of Paul’s letters, First Thessalonians is doctrinal as well as pastoral. His main reason, as with most of his epistles, is to encourage the saints as to the victory that had been accomplished by the resurrected, ascended and reigning King, the Lord Jesus.
Rev. Dr. Paul Michael Raymond expounds this letter verse by verse paying careful attention to both its doctrinal and its pastoral implications. He is careful, in his exposition, to point out the eschatological ramifications of this letter as well. This post-millennial approach to the First and Second Epistle of St. Paul to the Thessalonians is very rare. Yet this is exactly what Paul was encouraging the saints at Thessalonica to understand.
Rev. Raymond also deals with some of the difficult and often misunderstood passages which seem to indicate that the rapture of the saints is imminent. Both this study and the study in Paul’s Second Epistle to the Thessalonians is essential to understanding some of the misunderstandings concerning
postmillennialism and the end times.
